Double Major and Minor Programmes
Students of our department may pursue a double major or a minor in the programmes of the Faculty of Applied Sciences; students of other programmes may likewise pursue a double major or a minor in our department.

Double major students may not exceed a total course load of 40 hours per semester together with their major
Important: During the double major programme, the grade point average of the major programme may fall to 65 out of 100 on one occasion only; a student whose average falls below 70 for a second time is dismissed from the second major programme. Application dates and quotas are announced by the Deanship at the beginning of each academic year.

REGULATIONS Implementation Principles
TARSUS UNIVERSITY PRINCIPLES FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF DOUBLE MAJOR AND MINOR PROGRAMMES

Procedures relating to double major and minor education carried out in the programmes of our University are conducted in accordance with the provisions of the “Regulation on the Principles of Transfer between Associate and Bachelor’s Degree Programmes, Double Major, Minor and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer in Higher Education Institutions”.

A proposal to open a double major or minor programme, together with the curricula, quotas and any special conditions of the programmes for which a double major or minor is requested, becomes final upon the approval of the University Senate on the proposal of the relevant departments and faculty/school boards, and is carried out in cooperation with the relevant departments. A proposal to open a double major or minor programme may not be made for the years of a programme that have no students.

The relevant Deanship/Directorate announces the quotas, application dates and any special conditions of the double major and minor programmes at the beginning of each academic year. The application, evaluation and announcement of results of the double major and minor programmes are carried out by the relevant academic unit.

With the exception of law, medicine and health programmes and engineering programmes, the total number of students to be admitted annually to a double major or minor programme is determined as not less than 20% of the number of students specified for that programme in the Higher Education Programmes and Quotas Guide of the relevant year.

In programmes taught partly or wholly in a foreign language, candidates who do not meet the foreign language proficiency requirement are required to take a foreign language proficiency examination. Applications of candidates who fail the proficiency examination are not evaluated.

The achievement ranking criterion used in the placements carried out by ÖSYM is also valid for candidates applying to a double major or minor programme.

In order for a student to apply to a double major or minor programme:
a)A student who wishes to pursue a double major in a programme for which an achievement ranking requirement applies must, in addition to the other conditions set out in the Regulation, have met the achievement ranking requirement determined by the Council of Higher Education for the programme in the year of their enrolment.
b)The student must have no missing or failed courses required by the curriculum of the major programme up to the semester of application.
c)The grade point average at the time of application must be at least 3.00 for a double major and at least 2.50 for a minor.
d)For a bachelor’s double major application, students must be within the top 20% of the achievement ranking in the relevant year of their programme.
e)During the double major education, the grade point average of the student’s major programme may fall to 65 out of 100 on one occasion only. A student whose grade point average falls below 70 out of 100 for a second time is dismissed from the second major diploma programme. (The grade conversion table of the Council of Higher Education is used when converting grade ranges in the 4-point system to the 100-point system.)

The relevant Deanship/Directorate is obliged to take all measures to prevent course clashes with the students’ major programmes when preparing the course and examination schedules of the programmes for which a double major or minor is proposed.

A Double Major and Minor Programme Coordinator is appointed from among the faculty members by the relevant Faculty Deanship/School Directorate in order to take part in determining the courses of the double major and minor programmes and in planning the semesters in which they will be taken, to ensure that measures are taken to prevent clashes in course schedules, and to ensure that the double major and minor programmes are carried out in accordance with their purpose. The Double Major and Minor Programme Coordinator works in communication with the students’ advisors in the double major and minor programmes.

During the course registration renewal procedures at the beginning of each academic semester, double major students may not exceed a total course load of 40 hours together with their major. Courses for which students have met the attendance requirement but which they have failed are excluded from this limit.

A student who freezes their registration in the major programme is also deemed to have frozen their registration in the double major and minor programmes.

In addition to the Tarsus University Associate and Bachelor’s Degree Education and Examination Regulation, double major and minor students are obliged to comply with the decisions taken by the University Senate concerning education and teaching.
